Renowned Iranian teacher: “Everyone knows PMOI/MEK is the regime’s main enemy”

Iran, 14, 2019 - Hashem Khastar, representative of freedom-loving teachers in Iran, published an article – “Little Democrats” – in a Telegram social media channel recently reflecting the status and support enjoyed by the Iranian opposition group People's Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK) in Iran.

“The heroic people of Iran: There is a sea of blood between the regime and the PMOI/MEK. Everyone knows the PMOI/MEK is the regime’s main enemy because it enjoys a very strong organizational structure. According to the regime’s own rulers, they have been involved in all the protests and uprisings. On the other hand, monarchists are very sporadic in their efforts and lack any organization. Therefore, the regime is attempting to push freedom fighters towards the monarchists’ camp. The regime has also sent many of its moles into their files to support Reza Pahlavi while using vulgar language towards the regime and the PMOI/MEK. Meaning they place the PMOI/MEK in their crosshairs,” he explained.

“And for these individuals to gain credibility, they may even spend some time in prison to have a name for themselves after their release and be able to carry out their missions with a better image. Others, unknowingly, may even find themselves in the ranks of security forces, and instead of focusing their attention on the regime, they place all their will against the PMOI/MEK. (Just as the Syrian regime bombarded the Free Syrian Army, forcing them to retreat and ISIS took their place, because ISIS was against the Free Syrian Army, meaning the enemy of Bashar Assad’s regime.) These are those small democrats. Reformists such as [former Iranian regime president] Seyed Mohammad Khatami, Mostafa Tajzadeh, Behzad Nabavi and… their positions are carefully blueprinted to maintain the current regime in power…

“Let me shed more light on this issue with two memoirs. On November 10, 2018, when security forces – forced by the heroic people of Iran – were forced to release me from the Sina Psychiatric Hospital, two security officers came to have a talk with me. They said since the PMOI/MEK has voiced support for you, you have to issue a statement against them. Even the leader (referring to Iranian regime Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei) is not our red line, but the PMOI/MEK is. I said, ‘You mean sign my own death warrant?’ I referred them to an article I had previously written in support of Mr. Abdulreza Ghanbari, an imprisoned teacher. The article was published on the day of my arrest, being October 23, 2018. In May of last year, when agents of the Ministry of Intelligence and Security (MOIS) came to me with long faces, asking me why don’t I collaborate with Reza Pahlavi? You want me to call him on his mobile phone right now for you to two to talk? I said no…”

 “My intention in writing this article is not to support or oppose any specific organization. In fact, I intend to voice the truth for everyone to know in which camp they are fighting and if they are true democrats or little democrats. Furthermore, a freedom fighter can be useful in the transition period to democracy, and the period afterward. We all know that following the 1979 revolution, Iranian minorities, such as the Kurds, Arabs, Turkmens, Baluchis and… all had movements seeking to fulfill their rights yet were oppressed through extreme crackdown measures. Those demands are very much alive today and have spread throughout the country. After the Islamic republic is toppled, in a free and democratic state in the future, these minorities must definitely have their rights fulfilled under Iran’s geographic framework. In this path, there may be tensions following the overthrow of the Islamic republic. Only true democrats will be able to help resolve this issue, while little democrats will have no place. Little democrats always talk about the opposition to maybe establish fake opposition movements, with strings attached to the security forces.

“To the little democrats, with whatever name or title, I advise you to stick tight to the Islamic republic; keep it in power and people like me never need their support.”
