The United Nations General Assembly- September 2019 The international front against the Iranian regime expands Farid Mahoutchi Iran, October 28, 2019 —Following the sessions of the United Nations General Assembly in September, the special committees of the UNGA have become another display of the increasing isolation of the Iranian regime. In previous years, only the UNGA Third Committee focused on the Iranian regime’s human rights violations. But this year, the UNGA’s First Committee, which specializes in disarmament and international security, also focused on the Iranian regime, and different member states condemned Tehran’s destructive policies. The unprecedented isolation of the Iranian regime The reason Iran has returned to the center of concerns and criticism across the globe is the recent decision of the regime to renege on its commitments under the 2015 nuclear deal with world powers, formally known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA). In a de...

Mr. Fox, who was in the cabinet until July, will use a speech in Washington to warn that the 2015 agreement was "flawed" from the start and that attempts to keep it alive are "futile,"  Britain's Daily Telegraph reported . Mr. Fox, who was international trade secretary until the summer and remains well-connected in Republican circles, will reveal his opposition to the deal today in a speech to the Heritage Foundation, a right-leaning think tank. “Following the decision of President Trump to withdraw, the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action is dead and European attempts to salvage it are futile," Mr. Fox wr...

Samantha Power: Backers of Iran Deal Went Soft on Human Rights Written by  Hamideh Taati  on  14 September 2019 . Samantha Power, the United States Ambassador to the United Nations in President Barack Obama’s second term, has said supporters of the 2015 Iran nuclear deal went soft on the regime’s human rights abuses. Ambassador Power recalls in her new memoir: “Unfortunately, some countries were so pleased by the nuclear agreement that they felt it was unnecessary to run an annual U.N. General Assembly resolution condemning  Iran's human rights abuses ”. Ambassador Power doesn’t identify the countries that wanted to scrap the traditional denunciation in the months after the Security Council’s July 2015 endorsement of the nuclear agreement. But the episode dovetails with long-standing criticisms from Iran hawks, who argued that the agreement short-circuited Western efforts to counteract Tehran’s other aggressive policies, in order to avoid provoking the Ir...

2020 Democrats should support Trump's Iran policy, not pledge to rejoin 2015 nuclear deal Joseph I. Lieberman   Opinion contributor Published 10:25 AM EDT Sep 9, 2019 Iranian energy official Behrouz Kamalvandi says "there's not much time left" to save the nuclear agreement Iran entered into four years ago with the United States and several other countries. That is encouraging because this is an agreement that should not be saved. From the beginning, the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) was a bad agreement for the United States and our allies in the region. That's because it only paused Iran’s nuclear project, instead of ending it, and did nothing to stop Iran’s aggression against its neighbors, or its support of terrorism, or its brutal repression of the Iranian people. President Donald Trump saved the world from the worst of the JCPOA when he withdrew America from it last year and imposed broad new economic sanctions...

“Time is running out for the mullahs ruling Iran,” senior MP says Iran’s oil sector is heavily sanctioned by the United States (File Photo) Iran, September 3, 2019 –Heshmatollah Falahatpisheh, a member of the Security Commission in the Iranian regime’s Majlis (parliament), shared grave concerns over the critical situation of the mullahs’ rule. “In our current circumstances, time is running out for the state. A government facing problems and restrictions in selling its oil cannot wait two decades like Iraq for the status quo to change,” he said in remarks to state-run media. Ibrahim Rezaie, head of the Majlis Nuclear Commission, criticized those calling for talks with Washington. “Those individuals who are talking about negotiations with the U.S. are naïve. Europe, on [U.S. President Donald] Trump’s request, is attempting to bring us and America back to the negotiating table. Without a doubt, [French President Emmanuel] Macron...
