Iran: Railway Workers’ Strikes Continued On the Third Day Iran’s society is now witnessing yet another group of workers launching a strike. On Saturday, a number of official outlets and social media networks indicated several groups of railways workers going on strike that has continued to this day. The state-run ILNA news agency, along with other outlets, were also posting reports in this regard. These rail workers are responsible for keeping the country’s rail network up and running 24 hours a day, seven days a week. As this strike successfully began, it is the latest series of strikes in the third round of protests launched by Iran’s rail workers in the past six months. It is worth noting that the rail workers also launched a number of local strikes in between the periods when the entire country was experiencing strikes. The  protesting rail workers  are demanding payment of wage arrears and delayed paychecks, in some cases postponed for three to four months....

Iran: Flogging & Prison Sentence For 15 Workers For Taking Part In Peaceful Protests Iran: 15 Protesters Sentenced to Flogging and Prison By  Mohammad Sadat Khansari The Iranian Regime has sentenced  15 workers  at the Heavy Equipment Production Company (HEPCO) to prison and flogging for taking part in peaceful protests to demand their unpaid wages and learn the fate of the company in May. Each HEPCO worker was sentenced to one to two years in prison and 74 lashes by the 106th Branch of the Arak Penal Court for “disrupting public order” and “instigating workers via the internet to demonstrate and riot”, according to the state-run ILNA News Agency. Excessive Imports and Smuggling Main Cause of Factory Shut Downs in Iran

By Amir Taghati The excessive imports and smuggling of goods is the main reason behind the ongoing close-downs of producing factories and units, and subsequently, the reason behind job loss as well. The increase in unemployment has become a major concern for many, including the CEO of domestic locomotive producers: “our locomotive, Mac 24, is produced domestically; if we import it instead of producing it ourselves, 500 of our workers will lose their jobs”. The negative impact of imports has become so significant that domestic productions are no longer in demand as much, which one domestic producer comments about in his TV interview: “Excessive imports have led stored instead”.
