Iranians unhappy about high prices blame the corrupt regime of an unfit policy. The livelihood situation in Iran is at a rapid disaster pace with one-third of the Rial blown away. The Iranian currency value against the dollar has turned lives into nightmares.
Iran News Wire interviewed a number of Iranian citizens living in Tehran to share their living facts. The first parts of the list is a close up on a municipality employee’s life in Tehran.
“I have a little kid and need to buy diapers for her. Two months ago the price of diapers was 25 thousand Tomans and now it’s 50 thousand. Dried milk has gone from 18 thousand Tomans to 25500. This is while our salary has only increased by 10% but supplies have doubled in prices. Cost of basic commodities like oil and rice have doubled and we can only purchase half our needs. I had sold a car for 63 million Tomans and if I want to buy that same car it’s now 120 million. I can’t put up with this situation any longer! There is no fixed price on items we need to buy. The whole world runs its economy on the dollar and even Turkey is losing 70% of its currency value. But its people trust the officials to solve the problems. In Iran, no one trusts the government or system.”
Oil Driller Says Nuclear Deal Hurt Iran’s Industry
“A 10-year-old employee from the oil industry who drills, explains how life goes on this site. In his view, it is completely wrong to link economic problems to sanctions. Sanctions haven’t taken full effect yet! “The strange thing that happened is when President Rouhani signed the nuclear deal he caused damage to the oil industry too.” People like the oil minister, Zanganeh just waited for foreign companies to come and invest in Iran’s oil and had no other plans. Our oil prices have fallen in the last couple of years. Even though the JCPOA was signed and the sanctions were lifted, nothing good happened. Massive oil projects have been left unattended. Since two years ago, workers wages were held behind and missed. A drilling worker in a foreign country receives a monthly salary of $10,000. That’s something of 100 million Tomans but for an Iranian worker, it’s only 1.5 million. The sanctions case has not yet been seen. Officials are waging a psychological climate to relate every problem to sanctions. You should wait to see what happens in October!”
A working lady, who is single in Tehran says she cannot continue to work anymore. “I used to take on projects before and didn’t have a fixed job.” Prior to sanctions, my salary was 2 million Tomans and I could save up a little for my future. Now I’ve lost my job and with the previous one, I can only manage two weeks spending. The rest of the month I’m under pressure to try and make ends meet. I have a sister who has a serious illness and I have to hire a nurse for her. You’ll be surprised to know what kind of people roll in for home nursing. One time a writer came to me for filling this job. He wanted a second occupation to make money. The only thing that gives me strength is knowing I’m not alone and that a lot of others have my situation!
