Albanian PM strongly criticizes Iran’s terrorism, confirms supporting PMOI/MEK

Iran September 28, 2019—Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama, in his speech at the United Nations General Assembly in New York on Friday, strongly criticized the Iranian regime’s malign activities in his country and emphasized on the Albanian people’s determination in hosting members of the Iranian opposition People's Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK) on their soil.
“Albania is particularly concerned by Iran’s destabilizing behavior in the Middle East, but also often disruptive activities in relation to the Iranian opposition community who have generously been hosted in our country after having been subject to despicable massacres elsewhere. We had to react firmly in relation to a number of Iran’s illicit against our national security interests and we stand firm on the side of the countries that have been hurt by such activities both on the sea and in their land,” Prime Minister Rama said at the UN.

Back in December 2018, Mrs. Maryam Rajavi, President of the Iranian opposition coalition National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI), welcomed the expulsion of the Iranian regime’s ambassador and Intelligence Ministry’s station chief in Albania. Mrs. Rajavi described this courageous act by Albania as a necessary step in countering terrorism and the religious dictatorship ruling Iran and an imperative for the security of European countries.
In April 2018, Prime Minister Edi Rama announced that a terrorist plot hatched by the clerical regime against the PMOI/MEK had been foiled. “We are on the right side of history. We are among European-Atlantic countries that are similarly under threat. I believe all these countries will act against terrorist threats,” Mr. Rama stated on April 19, 2018.
Gholamhossein Mohammadnia, the regime’s ambassador to Albania, and Mostafa Roudaki, the Intelligence Ministry’s (MOIS) station chief in that country, both senior MOIS officials, were exposed by the Iranian Resistance in 2016 and 2017. Mohammadnia was the MOIS representative in the delegation headed by the regime’s Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif during the nuclear talks that led to the Iran nuclear deal, known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).
Mrs. Rajavi said the mullahs ruling Iran must be shown that “their terrorist activities in Europe and across the world will have serious consequences.”
She added, “Since three decades ago, the Iranian Resistance has always emphasized that the Iranian regime’s Foreign Ministry and its diplomats and embassies are part and parcel of its machinery of terrorism. Three major terror plots by the mullahs in Albania in March 2018, in France on June 2018, and in Denmark in September 2018 had been planned by these embassies and diplomats.”
“The clerical regime has found the only way out of the irremediable internal and external crises and deadlocks in suppressing the people of Iran, warmongering in the region, missile threats, and disseminating fake news, demonization, and terrorism, particularly against the Iranian Resistance, which it views as an existential threat,” Mrs. Rajavi said, adding, “The regime in Tehran is the godfather and the epicenter of terrorism under the banner of Islam in the world today. As such, designating the Ministry of Intelligence as a terrorist entity and expelling the mullahs’ diplomat-terrorists from the U.S. and Europe is necessary for these countries’ security and is demanded by the Iranian people.”
U.S. President Donald Trump had sent a letter to Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama praising his government for expelling the Iranian regime’s ambassador and a diplomat.
“Thank you for your steadfast efforts to stand up to Iran and to counter its destabilizing activities and efforts to silence dissidents around the globe. The leadership you have shown by expelling Iran’s Ambassador to your country exemplifies our joint efforts to show the Iranian government that its terrorist activities in Europe and around the world will have severe consequences.
“Albania has always been a great friend to the United States, and I look forward to growing our partnership as we confront the many important issues facing our two countries.”

The Albanian Foreign Minister Spokesperson told reports that the Iranian regime diplomats were suspected of taking part in activities threatening Albania’s security.
U.S. Secretary Mike Pompeo issued a statement expressing his gratitude to Albania and describing the two diplomats as two Iranian agents plotting terror attacks in Albania.
