Saudi Arabia, September 15, 2019—Two large oil facilities in eastern Saudi Arabia, including an Aramco site, were targeted in a significant attack on Saturday morning local time. The Saudi state news agency emphasized the fire resulting from these attacks have been contained.
The Houthi militias in Yemen, supported by Iran’s regime, claimed responsibility for this attack, saying they launched drones for this latest strike that has once again raised tensions across this already volatile area of the globe. Various reports are circulating and accusing Iran of launching these attacks through its proxies in southern Iraq, saying this latest strike was carried out with cruise missiles, not drones.
U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said, “Tehran is behind nearly 100 attacks on Saudi Arabia while Rouhani and Zarif pretend to engage in diplomacy. Amid all the calls for de-escalation, Iran has now launched an unprecedented attack on the world’s energy supply. There is no evidence the attacks came from Yemen. We call on all nations to publicly and unequivocally condemn Iran’s attacks. The United States will work with our partners and allies to ensure that energy markets remain well supplied and Iran is held accountable for its aggression.”

Saudi Arabian energy minister Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman said on Sunday that attacks on the kingdom’s oil facilities have partially halted crude and gas production from the world’s top oil exporter.
Attacks on Aramco facilities in Abqaiq and Khurais cut the company’s crude oil supply by around 5.7 million barrels per day or about 50 percent of its output, the minister said in a statement carried by Saudi state news agency SPA.
Part of the reduction will be compensated for through drawing from Aramco’s oil stocks, Prince Abdulaziz said.
