Iran: Rouhani acknowledges meddling in Iraq, sending forces
Iranian regime president, Hassan Rouhani
Iran, October 10, 2019—Iranian regime President Hassan Rouhani’s latest remarks shed light into the mullahs’ meddling in Iraq and acknowledging the fact that Tehran is dispatching forces to this country under the pretext of providing security and protection for an upcoming religious ceremony.
“Fortunately, all of our apparatus and institutions are participating. Everyone is helping, from the municipalities to the ministries of Health, Road and Construction, Interior, the armed forces, the police, the Revolutionary Guards (IRGC) Basij, the Foreign Ministry, the Red Crescent, the Communications Ministry… all organs and all public and non-government entities are taking part,” he said during his cabinet meeting on Wednesday, October 9.
Regarding the ongoing developments in northern Syria, Rouhani called for the presence of Bashar Assad’s criminal army in the joint border area with Turkey.
“The solution to providing security on the Syria-Turkey border is made possible with the presence of the Syrian army. However, agreements made behind the scenes will not be in the interests of the region. We call on the Turkish government to be more precise in their actions on this matter,” he said.
Rouhani went on to emphasize on the mullahs’ position of launching a massacre in Idlib, an area of northwest Syria under the control of the Syrian opposition and with 3 million civilians living there.
Rouhani’s comments on Iraq come against the backdrop of over a week of popular demonstrations against corruption and lack of public services continuing in more than ten provinces across Iraq, in which a general theme is the meddling of the Iranian regime in the affairs of its western neighbor. The spokesperson of the Iranian opposition People's Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK) issued a message to the Iraqi people and their rebellious youth: “Hail to you and bravo. The occupying mullahs’ regime of Iran, out, out.”
Various news agencies are reporting around 180 Iraqi demonstrators have been killed, and over 7,000 are left injured as Iraqi security forces continue their crackdown in many cities.

The escalating uprising in Iraq, especially in the central and southern sectors of this country where Shiites are a majority of the population, is rendering growing concerns for the mullahs’ regime. Most alarming for Tehran is the fact that Iraqi demonstrators are seen chanting, “Iran, out, out!” and setting fire to sites and buildings affiliated to militia groups affiliated to the Iranian regime. This is a vivid resemblance of how the Iraqi people utterly loathe the mullahs’ meddling in their country.
Al-Hadath TV reported IRGC Quds Force chief Qassem Soleimani has established a “war room” in Baghdad and is campaigning units of the Asaeb al-Haq, Iraqi Hezbollah and the Badr Corps – all militia groups associated directly to the Iranian regime – to confront the Iraqi demonstrations.
