4 Iran self-immolations, 1 suicide in one day over economic pressure
Reports from Iran indicate that on September 30, four Iranians self-immolated while one man jumped off a building due to economic pressure.
According to a human rights group, two women in the western province of Kermanshah self-immolated on Monday. They are currently hospitalized in Kermanshah’s Khomeini Hospital. The report said that the women, identified as Zeinab Mohammadi and Negar Ezzati committed suicide due to economic problems.
“Poverty made Negar Ezzati so desperate that she was forced to self-immolate,” a source close to the woman said.
Also on Monday, a man passed away after jumping off the sixth floor of a building in Kermanshah due to poverty and economic pressure.
The 35-year-old man was married and had children.
According to the ISNA state-run News Agency, a 23-year-old woman in the oil-rich city of Ahvaz in southwestern Iran self-immolated on Monday. The report said 90% of her body burned and that she was transferred to Ahvaz’s Taleghani Hospital.
It is not clear why she committed suicide.
Another man in Kermanshah also self-immolated on Monday. The unidentified man burned himself outside Kermanshah’s police station. He was taken to the hospital by people on the scene.
The report said that he committed suicide because he could not pay his bank loan and that the bank was trying to get the ownership of his land via the judiciary and the police.
A source said that this was the second time he had self-immolated.
Locals said that before self-immolating, the man said that he was not able to pay back the bank and that the bank was auctioning off his home.
According to statements by regime officials, 80% of Iranians live under the line of poverty. This is the direct result of the corruption of regime officials and the waste of Iran’s wealth on proxy wars and terrorism in the region.
