According to the official Khorassan daily, the 8th chamber of the Tehran Criminal Court sentenced the "brigands" chief, named Ali, to have his hand amputated, while his accomplice, Shahine, was sentenced to the amputation of four fingers of the right hand. The other five accomplices were sentenced to five years in prison and 74 lashes each. The amputation of the hand and the lashes for the five men were confirmed by the Supreme Court. The official newspaper said the men belonged to a gang that burgled villas of wealthy Iranians in Tehran.
