REUTERS/Stringer/File Photo Albania Foils IRGC Terrorist Plot Albanian police said on Wednesday they have discovered an Iranian paramilitary network that planned attacks in Albania against exiled members of an Iranian group seeking to overthrow the government in Tehran. The Associated Press quoted police chief Ardi Veliu as saying that the foreign wing of Iran's Revolutionary Guard (IRGC), the Quds force, operated an "active terrorist cell" targeting Mujahedin-e Khalq, or MEK, group members in Albania. A police statement said two Iranian top security officials led the cell from Tehran. It also said the network was linked with organized crime groups in Turkey and used a former MEK member to collect information in Albania. Veliu said another planned attack on the group in Albania by Iranian government agents was foiled in March during the Sultan Nevruz...

The Last Piece of This Domino Will Fall in Tehran

The Last Piece of This Domino Will Fall in Tehran By Pooya Stone 24 October - 40 years ago, in tandem with founding the Islamic Republic in Iran, Ruhollah Khomeini established a long-term policy under the name “exporting the revolution”. In reality, he pursued to export internal crises beyond Iran’s borders under the pretext of expansion of “Islam”. Khomeini’s revolution not only did not benefit the Iranian people but also pushed the region—mainly countries with a substantial Shiite majority—into endless wars. Until a month ago, Ayatollahs seemed to be winning the hegemony war over the entire Middle East. They touted the Islamic Republic as the main player in the region due to their terrorist proxies such as Lebanese Hezbollah, Shiite militias in Iraq, Houthi rebels in Yemen, etc. Today, however, as the Iranian government’s bankruptcy is exposed and the export of its crude oil is restricted, it is losing its authority in the region. Iran-backed Hezbollah loses its hegemo...

Iran: Athletes Face Internal Restrictions Before Foreign Opponents

Image
The International Judo Federation (IJF) announced in an Oct. 22 statement that the Iran Judo Federation will be suspended “from all competitions, administrative and social activities organized or authorized by the IJF and its Unions”. Iran: Athletes Face Internal Restrictions Before Foreign Opponents 24 OCTOBER 2019   EMPTY By Jubin Katiraie On October 22, the International Judo Federation (IJF) banned Iran from all competitions authorized by the federation and its unions. This means that Iranian judokas are suspended from Tokyo Olympics next summer, in which they counted as strong contenders. It is worth considering that judo is one of Iran’s strongest sports and IJF’s announcement is a big blow for Iranian judokas. However, the Iranian federation shows no effort to normalize its strange decisions instead of trying to justify them. Iran’s sports minister ordered the judoka to lose IJF issued a provisional ban last month while investigating a report that the Ir...

NBC’S “GIULIANI'S WORK FOR IRANIAN GROUP … LEAD TO MORE LEGAL WOES” IS YELLOW JOURNALISM

Image
NBC’S “GIULIANI'S WORK FOR IRANIAN GROUP … LEAD TO MORE LEGAL WOES” IS YELLOW JOURNALISM 24 October 2019 You can tell a smear piece in today’s highly charged and partisan journalism when it starts off with the media’s most powerful weapon: the selective backgrounder aimed at guiding the uninitiated reader to the conclusion of the writer wishes to sear into our minds. So it is with  NBC’s  October 17 article titled, “Giuliani's work for Iranian group with bloody past could lead to more legal woes,” written by Julia Ainsley, Andrew W. Lehren, and Rich Schapiro and published on NBC News website. The article is aimed at Rudy Giuliani, the former mayor of New York City, and famed U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York. It is a take-down of the current personal lawyer to US President Donald J. Trump. But what irks me most is the liberty the all-knowing authors take in smearing the historical and heroic resistance movement to the Ayatollahs in Iran that th...

MEK POLITICAL PRISONERS ON HUNGER STRIKE

Image
MEK POLITICAL PRISONERS ON HUNGER STRIKE Two political prisoners in Iran, who are supporters of the People's Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI, Mujahedin-e Khalq or MEK), have been on a hunger strike since October 17 over the poor living condition in prison. Mehdi Farahi Shandiz and Mohammad Riazat,  MEK  supporters who protested the lack of facilities and warm water in the central prison of Karaj, were relocated to solitary confinement the day after their hunger strike began, according to the Campaign in Defense of Political and Civil Prisoners. Riazat was arrested following the widespread anti-regime protests organized by the MEK last August before being temporarily released on bail. He was then sentenced to three years in jail on charges of “insulting the Founder and Supreme Leader” and “propaganda against the regime” by Judge Mehdi Zeinali of the criminal revolutionary court. Riazat was transferred to Karaj’s Central Penitentiary on December 10. Shandiz, w...
