The U.S. Should Focus on Iran’s Human Rights Abuses - Amb Ken Blackwell Written by  Mansoureh Galestan   on   22 October 2019 . Iran’s regime is becoming ever more brazen in its foreign policy, with the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) recently attacking commercial vessels in the Gulf, and seizing others,  including a British tanker , launching  missiles against  Saudi oil infrastructure  and pursuing aggressive policies in Syria, Iraq, and Yemen,  writes  former United States Ambassador Kenneth Blackwell . The Iranian regime's recent actions cannot simply be interpreted as a response to rising levels of pressure from the US, argues Ambassador Blackwell. " Its  abuses both at home and abroad have been getting worse for quite some time. But the then-37-year-old mother had been traveling with her young d...

Suppressing Female Street Vendors in Iran - a Manifestation of Double Repression of Women 21 OCTOBER 2019   EMPTY By Jubin Katiraie Increased street peddling by women in Iran is the result of the catastrophic economic situation and the spread of poverty, analysts say. Peddling is not an official job but the result of an ailing and bankrupt economy which is due to corruption in the Iranian government. The Iranian government’s economic policy has led to a large part of the middle class falling into poverty. The situation is worse for women who are mainly housewives and have no income, so they are forced to go on the streets and work as peddlers. Hard-working women who are always subject to persecution and even insults by government officials are forced to accept these things in order to earn a little something for their families. According to state media and Iran’s officials, many of these women...
