Europe should support the Iranian Resistance, not the Regime Written by  Shahriar Kia  on  13 August 2019 . Support for the Iranian resistance group, the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK), and for a “maximum pressure” campaign on the Iranian Regime is not limited to one country or one political party. In fact, it’s something that has support in every country and every political party on earth, according to former Irish lawmaker Jim Higgins. Those people understand that when it comes to dealing with the Iranian Regime, there is a third option that involves neither appeasement nor war. That third option is supporting the Iranian Resistance’s right to overthrow the Regime. Many of the Resistance supporters attended the international conference in Albania last month, at the headquarters for the Resistance, to express their support, celebrate how far the Resistance has come, and talk about the next steps. Jim Higgins, a former Irish Fine Gael pol...

This suggests that German businesses have been cutting ties to Iran in order to avoid any potential trouble with the United States after Washington reimposed sanctions on the Gulf country last year. German sales to Iran fell to 678 million euros ($758.8 million) from January through June year-on-year, according to data from the Federal Statistics Office. This is a 48% drop. Meanwhile, German imports from Iran plunged to nearly 110 million Euros, which is a 43% decline. The BGA trade association  said : “The fact that trade between Iran and Germany has collapsed that massively is not a big surprise, unfortunately.” The trade group explained that the extra-territorial character of the recent US sanctions means that businesses in third countries can be punished for trading with Iran, norm...

India Turns Away From Iran Oil

Image
India Turns Away From Iran Oil Aug 12, 2019  By Jubin Katiraie US sanctions on Iran have caused major Iranian oil buyer India to switch to exports from Venezuela and America, despite a long-term trade relationship with Iran. Iran has previously  accounted  for roughly 17% of India’s total crude imports, worth $11.1 billion between 2017-2018, because of India’s rising energy consumption and falling domestic oil output. But this fluctuated greatly depending on US-Iran relations. Any sort of tension between the two nations caused India’s imports from Iran to drop dramatically, particularly after US sanctions were imposed in 2012 and 2019. This also meant that when sanctions were lifted, as was the case in July 2015 after the signing of the nuclear deal, formally known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), Iranian crude imports to India rose significantly. In that specific instance, they jumped 110%. When the US withdrew from the deal and rei...

Iran’s Changing Trends: Decades-Long Silence on Opposition Broken to Launch Unprecedented Attack

Image
Iran’s Changing Trends: Decades-Long Silence on Opposition Broken to Launch Unprecedented Attack Aug 12, 2019  By Pooya Stone For more than 30 years, it has been Iran’s state policy to keep silent about the opposition, namely the Mujahedin-e Khalq ( PMOI or MEK ), and its impact, both domestic and global. A recent salvo of remarks and statements reflect a change in the regime's policy in this regard. The new approach stems from an unprecedented MEK presence in domestic affairs. Public awareness of the group’s activities has left the authorities incapable of continuing their practice of denial. Official remarks have defended brutal suppression against the MEK and have also expressed anxiety about the MEK’s progress and its role in organizing and galvanizing protests against the regime. Senior officials warn about “major events” that could still be forthcoming. The officials are fully cognizant of the fact that after years of a massive demonization campaign aga...
