Iran’s labor force: half the country living in poverty Analysis by PMOI/MEK Iran, October 2, 2019 —The livelihoods and economic situation of workers in Iran continues to deteriorate dramatically year after year. Facts and figures revealed by Iranian regime officials lead to the mind-blowing conclusion that no one would believe ten years ago. Workers in different countries may live in bad conditions, but there are many factors that make the situation of workers in Iran worse when compared to democratic countries, especially in the west. In Iran, the workers are systematically denied their basic rights. In 2019, the Iranian regime excluded contract workers from Labor Law and denied them their basic rights. Meanwhile, those few workers who do get support from the Labor Law struggle to afford the cost of their livelihoods. 4 Iran self-immolations, 1 suicide in one day over economic pressure by Adena Nima October 2, 2019 in Iran Economy Reports from Iran indicate that on September 30, four Iranians self-immolated while one man jumped off a building due to economic pressure. According to a human rights group , two women in the western province of Kermanshah self-immolated on Monday. They are currently hospitalized in Kermanshah’s Khomeini Hospital. The report said that the women, identified as Zeinab Mohammadi and Negar Ezzati committed suicide due to economic problems. “Poverty made Negar Ezzati so desperate that she was forced to self-immolate,” a source close to the woman said. Also on Monday, a man passed away after jumping off the sixth floor of a building in Kermanshah due to poverty and economic pressure. The 35-year-old man was married and had children.
